Do you need to restore one or more teeth with a custom-made crown? In the past it would have taken at least two visits to fully restore a tooth. At the first visit, the dentist would reshape the tooth by removing a portion of the structure and any decay if that was present. Then, a small tray filled with molding compound was placed in your mouth and allowed to set for a few minutes in order to create an impression of the tooth. This step often proved to be the most annoying for many patients.
But today, thanks to advances in dentistry and technology, Dr. Madhav can design, mill, and place a fully customized crown in just one appointment using a revolutionary tool called CEREC.
For patients, CEREC means fewer injections, less drilling, and less inconvenience. It also means peace of mind. Finally, you can reclaim good health and wellbeing again.
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction. CEREC uses 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology to facilitate the design and fabrication of a restoration—a dental crown, an inlay, an onlay or a bridge—without the mess and inconvenience of a molded impression. Yes, there is still the need for an impression, but with CEREC that impression is virtual, so you don’t have to sit with a mouthful of goop. Moreover, you don’t have to wait two weeks for your restoration to be returned from our dental lab. The virtual design becomes your actual tooth restoration in just a matter of minutes—not days—right here at the office of your dentist in Plano. TX.
During your procedure, Dr. Madhav will prepare your tooth just as needs to be done with a standard dental crown. Then, using CEREC’s special digital camera and 3D technology, we’ll create a detailed picture of the tooth that we will be restoring. Using this image, we can design a fully customized crown for you. The image is transferred to the CEREC computer system where your restoration is designed with details including size, shape and color. Then, once the design is complete, our CEREC machine will begin milling the crown from high-quality dental porcelain while you wait comfortably in our office. Milling usually takes no more than 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Once your crown is finished, Dr. Madhav will check to make sure the crown fits perfectly over your prepared tooth. Then, all that’s left is for Dr. Madhav to attach it to your tooth.
Our CEREC machine uses durable, tooth-colored ceramic to create quality results you can trust. With your finished crown in place, you can return to your normal diet without fear, and because it matches the shade of your teeth, you can smile with confidence. What’s more, because your crown is closely bonded to your tooth, we will remove only what we need to in order to place your crown, leaving the rest of your tooth untouched.
Caring for your new CEREC crown requires no more work than your regular at-home oral hygiene routine and scheduled dental checkups with your dentist in Plano, TX, at Preston Bend Dental.
